Nur Ali geared up for the Fort Worth’s Texas Motor Speedway
Wednesday 14 April, 2010 – Nur Ali the pioneer of motorsports racing in Pakistan is all geared-up to compete in the upcoming mega stockcar racing event to be held on 16 April. Making this more interesting is the fact that a Pakistani, a Canadian and group of Americans will walk together to this race track as a team.
It’s driver Nur Ali, car owner Mario Gosselin and his DGM Racing team arriving at Texas Motor Speedway to compete in the Rattlesnake 150 ARCA Racing Series race. Perhaps the most diverse combination in all of stock car racing, any one of four languages - English, Urdu, French and German - can be heard coming from their garage.
“When the plans were announced to build Texas Motor Speedway, I immediately knew I wanted to race there” said Nur, driver of the No. 12 Chevrolet. “It’s taken longer than I had hoped for but it is finally happening.”
Born in Karachi, Nur Ali grew up watching Formula 1 and aspired to become a professional race car driver. After moving to Fort Worth with his family in the early 80s, it wasn’t long before he discovered stock car racing and developed his lifelong passion to become a NASCAR competitor.
“NASCAR is where I want to be,” said Nur. “I have the skill, passion and determination to be competitive and with the support of my fans from around the world I am sure to walk the extra mile.” Nur Ali will be meeting his fans and signing autographs for his fans and supporters at the Official Autograph Session to be held by the ARCA Series at Texas Motor Speedway before the main event.
The Rattlesnake 150 is a high banked 1.5 mile oval. With 100 laps to race, the drivers are put to the test of measuring their limits on the speedway. “The track really tests your endurance, as you need to be in top shape to handle the pressure and gravitational force that acts upon you while you are on the track for 100 laps”, said Nur.
Nur Ali continues to set his sights on becoming the
first Asian-American stock car driver to compete full-time in the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series, but for now he will do his very best to make his mark
at Texas in the ARCA Racing Series.
Nur Ali Completes First Laps in Open Test Session at Texas Motor Speedway
Thursday 11 March, 2010: Pakistani ace Nur Ali completed his first laps in his stock car at Texas Motor Speedway. His smile was pretty evident for all to see even with his helmet on, as he pulled back into his garage stall. Nur Ali, driving his DGM Racing prepared Chevrolet, participated in Tuesday’s ARCA Racing Series open test session. He was gearing up to compete in the April 16 running of the Rattlesnake 150 at the 1.5 mile oval.
“I’ve been looking forward to the day I drove a stock car at Texas Motor Speedway for a long time,” said Nur, who resides with his family in Fort Worth, Texas. “As a resident of Texas and a race car driver, there is no bigger thrill than driving on Texas’ high banks. Before I left pit road, I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.” The session did not go completely as planned for Nur but it still proved to be very beneficial.
“The car that team owner Mario Gosselin brought was fast right off the truck,” said Nur. “Within a few laps we were up to speed. We started making changes and it continued to get even better.”
When asked about his early pit stop Nur explained, “We made a few more runs when I noticed a problem with the motor. We didn’t want to risk damaging it or causing a wreck, so we cut the day a little bit short. There is no doubt in our minds that we would have been much faster had we not encountered that problem. We have a fresh motor for the race so we will be fine.”
Come race day, Nur Ali will be competing against some
of the leading adversaries in stock car racing. However this son of Pakistan
is all determined to make the name of the nation shine as being the only
racer from the region to compete in the ARCA Racing Series.
